What is Plant Breeding?
General Definition
Plant breeding uses principles from a variety of sciences to improve the genetic potential of plants. The process involves combining parental plants to obtain the next generation with the best characteristics.
Membership
The National Association for Plant Breeding (NAPB) is a science-based non-profit organization welcoming all, especially plant breeders and students who share our vision. We invite you to become an active member by enrolling now.
One-year membership is $130 for professionals and $70 for students. The three-year membership for professionals is $345 and for students $165.

Friends of Plant Breeding Award Past Winners
Honors individuals whose career has not been involved in an active plant breeding program, but who, through their professional activities, have contributed significantly to the advancement of the plant breeding discipline.
Early Career Working Group (ECWG)
Mission
Assisting self-defined early career professionals with three primary objectives:
- securing professional employment and defining their career paths;
- providing social spaces to establish relationships with their peers; and
- to provide service and mentoring opportunities.
